Oral health is a very important aspect of your cat’s overall wellness. Painful conditions such as feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (cat cavities), masses, gingivitis, and fractured teeth can have a significantly negative impact on your cat’s quality of life. Treatment for these conditions often include antibiotic therapy, pain medication, a thorough dental cleaning, and/or extractions of one or more teeth. Under general anesthesia, a veterinary technician will clean your cat’s teeth using an ultrasonic scaler and then polish the surface of each tooth. Full digital intraoral dental radiographs are then taken of the entire mouth. An oral exam performed by the doctor in conjunction with the radiographs help diagnose any problem areas and determine the correct course of treatment.
